Review: Whilst learning about green issues as part of their schoolwork, my kids were very happy to see wooden toothbrushes appear, and it was nice to see that they already appreciate the value of eco-friendly solutions like this. Once they’d tried to actually use them, their enthusiasm was dampened just a little bit, because they aren’t quite as pleasant in the mouth as the plastic ones apparently- but overall I think they were still on board with them in principle. They described them as very stiff- and not just after first use. One of them said that they “tasted funny” but I’m not entirely sure what they meant by that, except as an indicator that they’re probably not brushing their teeth properly. They liked the fact that they are lightweight and simple, and the shape of the handle allowed them to get a good grip. Having watched a BBC documentary about how toothbrushes are made a little while ago, there’s one thing about these brushes I still don’t understand, and that’s how the bristles stay attached to the body. In normal toothbrushes I believe that’s done with tiny pieces of metal, and that’s why normal toothbrushes aren’t practical to recycle. I can’t find anything to either confirm or deny there’s no metal in here- there’s clearly no plastic, but is there no metal? I assume so but I’m not actually sure. And if there’s no metal- how are the bristles staying on? And will they stay on for as long as they do on a plastic toothbrush, or is the non-metal alternative going to give them a shorter lifespan? Time will tell on that one, and if these brushes end up having a much shorter than expected use before bristles start peeling away, I will come back and update this review accordingly. Naturally these brushes cost a bit more than the plastic equivalents, but overall I’d say it’s worth paying that extra on principle, for a recyclable alternative that sends a good message to your kids as well. Packaged in neat individual card packs (recyclable, obviously), it appears they will last a while too.

Review: I love how these are made out of bamboo and are eco friendly however they do feel very different to the normal brush which takes getting use to. They are also moulded and very flat handled instead of rounded which makes turning the bush feel uncomfortable. They work however improvement in handle design is needed to impress me
