Description: Description This pretty little tray features the symbolic tree of life design. It is made from Kenyan soapstone and has been hand carved, hand painted and then engraved by highly skilled artisans. Most of the worlds soapstone originates from the Kisii in the western highlands of Kenya which is home to some of the best soapstone artisans and carvers in the world. The talc in soapstone is soft to touch, hence the name. This soapstone tray is beautifully tactile. Before starting work the stone must be immersed in water to make it even softer and therefore easier to work with. Using a hammer and chisel the main shape is carved out and colour then added. A smaller knife, known as a 'kisu', is then used for the engraved design or illustration. Description: Description Tingsa or Tingsha are two small cymbals that are used by Buddhists during offerings, prayer and meditation. The cymbals are generally joined together by a strap and produce a clear, high pitched ringing tone when struck together. In addition to their ancient traditional use as an aid to meditation and in ritual offerings, Tingsa are nowadays being used increasingly in sound therapy for the 'space - clearing" of rooms. I could not resist buying four of these beautiful blankets I have now learned are actually called Mexican Falsa Blankets. There is a real quality to them. While not particularly heavy, they are robust and well made. Despite the difficulty in stuffing three of them into my single suitcase, and having to nonchalantly wear one the entire flight home, I have no regrets. Several houses (and two continents) later, and having taken a severe beating along the way from kids, beaches, dogs, wet grass, red wine, and mayonnaise I can personally attest to their rugged durability. They are gorgeous too. Enough of the 'ethnic' to prove you do occasionally venture out, but stylish enough to be cool just about anywhere. Description: Description Over a decade ago I stumbled across Falsa blankets in a market down some back street in the outskirts of Mexico City. I could not resist buying four of these beautiful blankets I have now learned are actually called Mexican Falsa Blankets. There is a real quality to them. While not particularly heavy, they are robust and well made. Despite the difficulty in stuffing three of them into my single suitcase, and having to nonchalantly wear one the entire flight home, I have no regrets. Several houses (and two continents) later, and having taken a severe beating along the way from kids, beaches, dogs, wet grass, red wine, and mayonnaise I can personally attest to their rugged durability. The chime bars are struck with the supplied wooden beater to produce a loud and resonant selection of tones primarily used in sound therapy and space clearing.
